I use Google Tag Manager to manage my pixel, which helps me create custom events that fire based on a timer (how long someone spends on a page), scroll depth, engagement with embedded YouTube videos, and more. You can also refine it by URL or parameters (if you pass them) to help focus on a specific segment of people who performed this event.

You’d be surprised at how many existing links (both internal and external) may be pointing to incorrect or discontinued URLs. A good way to investigate this is to review the Crawl Errors report in Google Webmaster Tools, which shows URLs with 404, 500 and other errors that Google encountered while crawling the site.
